In August of 2022, 28-year-old Georgia resident Amber Thurman discovered that she had unintentionally conceived twins. She traveled to North Carolina to have her unborn children scraped out of her body, but she was late for her appointment and missed it. The clinic gave her mifepristone - chemical abortion pills - which she took. She proceeded to experience the serious side effects that those pills sometimes cause, resulting in her own death in addition to the deaths of her two unborn children.

You wouldn’t know it from the media coverage.

Thurman’s story resurfaced in a big way more than two years after her death when partisan propaganda website ProPublica published a long-form essay that touched around the fringes of the facts of her story and repeatedly implied without evidence that she was a victim of laws that prevent the pills that killed her from being dispensed in her home state.
